One of the most important aspects of my room, both at home and uni, is that I make it mine. I choose it, I decorate it, and I make it. Although they take time, home DIY's are my favorite - they are things you look at and use every day, and can feel proud that you made it just the way you want. A woven rug is great craft for a relaxing day of movie marathons. This reclaimed wood headboard gives the room a beach cottage-like feel. A makeover for a metal lawn chair is a fun way to welcome the summer BBQ's. I'm completely in love with this hanging table. My bike is important at uni, so why not give it a fresh coat of paint? I was a band geek in high school. That meant a lot of time commitment, trips, fun, and t-shirts. More precisely, enough t-shirts to make a pretty large quilt. I've bought the necessary materials - batting, backing, lots of thread - but I still can't bring myself to actually cut up the t-shirts (and the memories!). In the meantime, I've been studying up about quilting, and hoping that my first - and most important - quilting project turns out spectacular. I intend to base the quilt off this tutorial. The idea is the same, but the blocks will be bigger than the ones used here. I like the straightforward and simple instructions of this video. Although rather long, this video is a good tutorial on how to bind the quilt. A picture-based tutorial on binding (and the fabric is so cute!). And just in case a rare moment of bravery comes through, here are tips on free-motion quilting. Smile c:
~michelle Now that I'm finished with all my exams (and frantic cramming), it's time for me to take a break and just relax! I've got a long list (in no particular order) of books that I really want to read this summer, recommended on Pinterest and by my favorite bloggers. I'm looking to finish up The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey before I dive into the list.
Any thoughts on these books or more recommendations? Smile c: ~michelle |
